Murchie's has a tradition of creating blends that are steeped in history. In the early 1900’s, James Dunsmuir, a coal and railroad baron, commissioned a 40 room mansion that came to be known as Hatley Castle to be built on the grounds of what is Royal Roads University today.
During the Dunsmuir’s tenure of Hatley Castle, a special tea blend was created by Murchie’s called the Dunsmuir Family blend, a blend of rich black teas and fragrant greens. In 1995, when Royal Roads University set up their campus operations on the grounds, the Dunsmuir blend was resurrected and renamed the Royal Roads University blend.
