Green Black Blends

In the 1850’s, after much trial and error, to perfect the balance and taste, John Murchie created the first green and black tea blend, comprised of Her Majesty Queen Victoria’s favoured teas.

This combination caused quite a stir in the tea industry, as it was very unorthodox to blend green and black teas together. John Murchie was called a rebel and took some criticism. Undeterred, he continued his work on green and black blends, creating some of Murchie’s most famous teas including No.10 Blend, a Murchie’s fan favourite for over 100 years.

The recipe for Queen Victoria Blend is the same today as back when John created it in the 1850’s. We have continued to add to the many recipes created by our founder and build on the unique tradition of blending green and black teas that carry the same appeal today.
