John Murchie's unconventional tea blending ideas resulted in one of Murchie's most famous blends, one that has been a best seller for decades. Murchie's No. 10 Blend is a mild, sweet combination of gunpowder and jasmine greens, with Keemun and Ceylon black teas, perfect for any time of day. Lightly aromatic with a soft, smooth flavour, that goes great with an afternoon scone topped with Murchie's Lemon Curd.

Our No. 10 Blend was selected in 1996 as the best beverage out of over 300 products sampled at the Canadian Association of Specialty Food.

My husband and I have been drinking this tea for over 15 years - we absolutely enjoy it's balanced flavours and smooth finish. We've tried many other lovely teas over the years but keep coming back to this one!

Love Murchie's  Review by  Cynthia

I love Murchie's black and green tea blends. Murchies makes a wide selection of black green blends and they are fantastic. My husband, a coffee drinker, is drinking Murchie's black green tea blends every day now. His favorite is Waterfront.

Absolutely Amazing!!!  Review by  Margaret

I couldn't believe my order it arrived today and I only ordered it yesterday! I am very familiar with the #10 Blend and the Afternoon Blend but anxious to try the Ms Grey and Spiced Orange. I've had #10 since I was a little girl. My mother first bought it on her honeymoon and always kept it around. I love Twinings Lady Grey and I expect this will be even better. I had to taste an Earl Grey Shortbread and a bit of the Blueberry Orange Marmalade. Both are yummy! I definitely will be ordering more of everything in the future.

Excellent  Review by  ["George's Mom "]

The current reviews giving Number 10 Blend a perfect rating say it all. Absolutely the best tea; the only choice for my husband. Our entire family loves it.

great tea  Review by  ['Ellen']

My husband only drinks one kind of tea. Murchies #10. So he's a little narrow in his preferences, but when tasted this for the first time I had to agree. This is GREAT tea.

How is it so good?  Review by  Connie

Two years ago I took a walking foodie tour in Victoria. Murchie's was on the tour and No. 10 was the tea. I came home with tea in my suitcase and I have never turned back. Murchie's No. 10 is my go-to absolute best tea. I've spread the love by sending gifts of it to friends and family because why wouldn't you? This tea makes me smile and relax and just feel the way a person should.

Absolutely Perfect  Review by  Alisha

I love tea. I always have. I love a wide variety of teas. But there is none that can compare to Murchie's No. 10 Blend. It is, to me, the pinnacle, and not merely the pinnacle of teas, but the pinnacle of all beverages.

Ten out of Ten!  Review by  ['Healo']

I was given an Anniversary Box as a gift and all of the teas included were premium quality. The No.10 Blend, however, greeted me with its heavenly fragrance and won me over with its incredible flavour!

Unique and Delicious Blend  Review by  ['Lizann']

I have been brewing No. 10 Blend for almost 40 years. My sister in Seattle told me to buy some on my honeymoon to Victoria and I have been hooked ever since. I wake up to a cup every day! I like it plain, or with a little milk in it. I have never had anything like it - it is lovely.

Unique  Review by  Joel

This is a tea I've never had elsewhere. A lovely slight jasmine flavor, and a reduced amount of caffeine for when you don't need a full-strength cup (for instance, at dinner).

Stuck on No. 10 Blend  Review by  Rsvpcolette

I’ve been hooked on Murchies No. 10 Blend since I first tried it in 1974 while living in Victoria, B.C. It is a very rich black Ceylon tea with a mix of undetectable green tea. There is nothing like it and no need for milk or honey to mar its delicious rich flavour. Highly recommended!

Flavour Profile Guide

Tea and coffee tasting is a very individual, multi-dimensional experience: one person’s perfect cup can be too strong or weak, too brisk or watery for the next person. At Murchie’s, we believe that the best tea or coffee is the one that YOU like the best! We use the following flavour profile guides to help compare our teas and coffees within a relative scale.

Tea Strength Ratings

This rating method indicates the strength of flavour each tea has when brewed according to our brewing guide.

RATING

RATING PROFILE
Light/Delicate Tea | Murchie's Tea & Coffee              Light/Delicate: Very light in colour and delicate in flavour
Medium Tea | Murchie's Tea & Coffee              Medium: Medium-light cup with slightly fuller cup
Medium-Strong Tea | Murchie's Tea & Coffee              Medium-Strong: Medium-dark cup, medium body, and full flavour without harshness
Strong Tea | Murchie's Tea & Coffee              Strong: Full body, rich cup, takes milk well
Very Strong Tea | Murchie's Tea & Coffee               Very Strong: Rich, dark cup with very full, strong flavour and briskness

Coffee Ratings

We rate the flavour properties of our coffees along two dimensions: roast and body.

Roast is simply a result of how long and how hot the beans have been roasted, which can be seen in the colour of the finished bean, and typically results in general flavour traits:

Light Roast           More acidity, brightness and a slight pucker
Medium Roast           Slightly richer flavours, some acidity, enhanced creaminess
Dark Roast           Distinctive roasted flavour, sometimes notes of toasted sugar or charcoal

Body is the term used to describe how the brewed coffee feels in your mouth:

Light Body           Easy to drink with little lingering flavour, ‘thin’ or ‘clean’ feeling on the palate
Medium Body           Heavier, creamier mouth-feel with more lingering flavour
Full Body           Rich, full-mouth feeling: hits all of the palate and lingers

Brewing Guide | Murchie's Tea & Coffee

Tea Brewing Guide

Different types of teas should be brewed according to certain times and water temperatures to bring out their best flavours. Use this guide as a starting point, and then experiment until you find the perfect brewing method for your favourite tea.

Based on approximately one level teaspoon (2.5g) of loose tea or one tea bag per 6-8 ounce (180-240ml) cup. For stronger flavour, add more tea. Brewing for longer may increase the strength of the tea, but will likely also cause bitterness.

Brew times shown in minutes.

Coffee Brewing Guide

The simplest methods for brewing coffee are drip coffee, pour over and French press. These guidelines are a starting point; modify the ratio of coffee to water, the grind, and brewing time to your taste. If your coffee is not strong enough, increase the proportion of coffee per cup of water, grind the beans finer, or allow them to brew longer – or any combination of these factors. If your coffee is too strong, simply do the opposite.

Drip coffee or pour over method: hot water is gradually poured over coffee grounds and slowly drips through

  • Fine to medium grind coffee
  • 1.5 to 2.5 tablespoons of coffee per cup of water
French press: coffee grounds are ‘steeped’ in hot water, and then a filter presses down the grounds, allowing the finished coffee to be poured off
  • Coarse grind coffee
  • 1 to 1.5 tablespoons of coffee per cup (e.g. 4-6 tbsp for a 4-cup French press)
  • Pour about 1/3 of the water over the coffee grinds; wait about 30 seconds and then pour in the rest
  • Wait 4-5 minutes, then push down the plunger to separate the grounds from finished coffee, and enjoy!
