Our Story and Heritage
As a young boy working for Melrose's of Scotland, a prestigious tea import merchant in Britain, John Murchie delivered tea to Queen Victoria while she was in residence at Balmoral Castle in the Scottish Highlands. Over time, John became familiar with the types of teas the Queen preferred and as his knowledge of tea grew, he started experimenting with blending teas on his own.
When John immigrated to Canada and settled on the West Coast, he brought with him his passion and expertise in tea. He took this passion and pioneering spirit to establish Murchie's Tea in 1894. The art of blending teas has been passed down from John along with his dedication to providing the best quality products for his discerning customers.
Murchie's Today
We proudly operate eight retail stores within Greater Vancouver and Greater Victoria, plus a mail order division and a growing online store servicing customers the world over.
We are focused on procuring only the highest quality teas and 100% Arabica coffees from the world's finest tea gardens and coffee regions. All of these raw products are shipped directly to our production facility in Delta, BC where the coffee beans are freshly roasted ‘just right’ and the teas are expertly blended and packaged for customer enjoyment. With over 130 varieties of tea and 25 coffee roasts, we have something for every taste.
As one of Canada's oldest brands, our respect for heritage and tradition, our commitment to quality, and our expertise in blending tea and roasting coffee have been the pillars that have grounded us over the past 125 years and will continue to drive us forward into the next.
