Author: Layla Osberg

Christmas is coming. In the next few days, we'll see final decorations put up, pantry and fridge stocked, and gift lists ticked off - just don’t forget to buy those extra gifts for inevitable surprise visitors and invitations! After all, there’s no guest more welcome than one who arrives with a little treat in hand. Think: boxes of Tea Samplers, Tea and Jam sets and tins of Murchie’s Shortbread.

The holidays are finally here, and what could make things merrier than two unique cocktail recipes up your sleeve? Both for whipping up at the end of a busy day and for serving while hosting.

But first - Happy Holidays and THANK YOU to all our readers for making Murchie’s part of your celebrations!

Festive Gin and Tonic

Ingredients

  • 2 Murchie’s Traditional Chai tea bags
  • 1 tablespoon Pomegranate syrup (you can substitute pomegranate syrup with half an oz cranberry or pomegranate juice, just omit the sugar from the recipe)
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 2 ounces Gin
  • Tonic
  • Ice

Or, use Holiday Spice rooibos for a caffeine-free version

Instructions

  1. Brew a strong chai in a heatproof measuring cup with 2 tea bags per cup of boiling water for 3-4 minutes. Remove tea bags.
  2. Add 1 tablespoon of pomegranate syrup to the measuring cup and 1 tablespoon of white sugar (or half oz of juice). Stir until dissolved.
  3. Add a few ice cubes to the tea mixture to cool.
  4. In a glass filled with ice, add the gin and tea mix to half full and top up with tonic water.
  5. Garnish with orange peel.
